Police are investigating a home burglary in Spearwood overnight that resulted in the death of a pet pug.

Police said sometime between 1.30am and 6.30am the Nineham Avenue house was broken into.

The occupant who was housesitting for the residents discovered areas of the house had been rummaged through, and eight-month old Coco was missing.

A neighbour tragically discovered Coco's body a short distance from the house.

Police are investigating as they are unclear how Coco died.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around Nineham Avenue or Scales Way early this morning, with CCTV of the area, or with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report it online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
