Just over half of patients waiting for elective surgery at Rockingham General Hospital received their treatment on time.
New analysis from Compare the Market AU has revealed just 56.3 per cent of the 2746 recorded elective procedures at Rockingham Hospital in the 2024-25 financial year were completed within the clinically recommended time frame, topping the list of WA public hospitals.
Fremantle Hospital ranked second-lowest with only 59.4 per cent of surgeries carried out on time.
Kalgoorlie Health Campus led the way with 97.6 per cent of elective surgeries performed in the recommended time frame, while of the 3237 elective surgeries at Peel Health Campus in 2024-25 just over 88 per cent were completed on time
“Waiting for a surgery or procedure can already be stressful, never mind when some patients find themselves waiting over a year before receiving treatment," Executive General Manager of Health at Compare the Market Steven Spicer said.
"While Australia's public health system provides essential care, long wait times for some procedures may lead Australians to consider private healthcare options.
"Private health insurance can help eligible patients access treatment sooner in some circumstances, while also helping manage the financial impact of private medical care."
