The City of Rockingham's only dedicated seniors’ centre is set for a major upgrade.
Originally built in 1993, the Rockingham Autumn Centre has long served as a space for social connection, support and wellness for residents aged 60 and over.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said with more than 2000 members and the City’s population now exceeding 150,000, including over 26,000 seniors, the need for a modern, accessible, and flexible facility is essential.
“We know how important the Autumn Centre is to so many in our community,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“This upgrade is about making it even more welcoming and fit-for-purpose, so it can keep up with the changing needs of our seniors and continue to be a place they enjoy coming to.”
Key features of the redevelopment include the merging of the IT room and library, covering and enclosing of the alfresco seating area, increasing the space of the foyer and gallery area, improving accessibility (upgrading and refurbishing all toilets) and upgrading the cafe and dining facilities.
The estimated cost of the redevelopment is $3.3 million.
