Rockingham Swimming Club has cleaned up at the City of Rockingham 2024 Sports Star of the Year Awards.
The club won five out of the 10 awards including Club of the Year and Club Governance Awards for the second year running.
Members Max Wicks also won Junior Sports Star of the Year, Bridget Young won Masters Sports Star of the Year and Jennifer Byrne won Junior Volunteer of the Year.
Mayor Deb Hamblin said there was a huge pool of talent at the club, which was making a fantastic contribution to the local sporting community.
“The Rockingham Swimming Club is a long established club in our community that has had some great success, and we are delighted that the efforts of their hardworking athletes and dedicated volunteers have been recognised,” Mayor Hamblin said.
The 2024 Sports Star Awards were held last week at the Gary Holland Community Centre to recognise the outstanding achievements of local volunteers, clubs and athletes.
Ten awards were presented to a field of 33 talented finalists at the event, which featured basketballer Anneli Maley as guest speaker.
Maley is a Perth Lynx player in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) and recently returned from competing in the Paris Olympics.
Mayor Hamblin congratulated all of the finalists and winners on their success and encouraged them to continue to strive for sporting excellence – whether it’s on or off the field.
“Sport plays a vital role in creating a physically and mentally healthy community and in Rockingham we are lucky to have so many sports stars succeeding on the local, state, national and international sporting stage,” Mayor Hamblin said.
“We’re also very grateful to the volunteers who make these dreams possible through their coaching and administration, which ensures our local sporting community will thrive for many years to come.”
