A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the fatal hit-and-run of a 37-year-old man in Golden Bay in 2020.
The man, who cannot be named because he was 17 at the time of the offence, struck and killed Matthew Neary with his Nissan Navara ute on Mandurah Road in the early hours of November 22.
The accused then fled the scene, avoiding police for over four years until CCTV enhancement technology allowed detectives to determine the make and model of the vehicle.
Two days after releasing digitally reconstructed images of the Nissan Navara D40 ute, the Secret Harbour man was arrested in May 2025.
He was still in possession of the vehicle but had altered its appearance shortly after the police appeal.
The man faced the Perth Children's Court this week where he pleaded guilty to failing to stop and provide assistance after an incident occasioning death, and failing to report it to police.
He is due to be sentenced in September.
