Nominations are now open for the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s 2021 SJ Garden Competition.
Now in its second year, Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the competition aims to recognise the great home and commercial gardens within the Shire.
“SJ residents and businesses do such a fantastic job at creating beautiful gardens and this competition aims to recognise and celebrate their hard work,” she said.
“We were so impressed by the quality of the gardens entered last year, and we are really excited to see how our local green thumbs step it up again for 2021.”
Two new categories have been added to this year’s competition, with entries open for best edible and commercial gardens.
Other categories available to enter include native, rural, traditional and waterwise.
The winners of each category will receive a prize in the form of a voucher worth $200 to a local garden centre.
The competition is supported by local businesses, with category prizes provided by Australian Native Nursery (native and waterwise), Mundijong Garden Supplies and Hire (traditional and edible), Forestvale Trees (rural), Aussie Organics (commercial) and SJ Plant Supply (runner up prizes).
The competition is for front gardens only (the area between the residence and the road, with an emphasis on inclusion of the verge in the overall design).
