Former Shire of Murray President Wally Barrett has sadly passed away.
Mr Barrett was Deputy Shire President from 2009 to 2011 and Shire President from 2011 to 2015.
"Wally was a giant within our community and was a highly respected member of Council for 23 years," a Shire spokesperson said.
"Wally also gave so much to the community, having been on many boards and committees. He was a founding member of the Pinjarra Community Bank/Bendigo Bank.
"Wally leaves a significant legacy and will be remembered for many years to come.
"Sincere condolences to his loving wife Anne and his family."
Mr Barrett also served as a Lions Club International member and had been the president, vice president and secretary of the Lions Club of Mandurah.
