Motorists travelling along Mandurah Road in Secret Harbour will notice a speed limit reduction from this week.

A 1km stretch of road between Anstey Road and Surf Drive has been dropped from 100km/h to 70km/h in a bid to reduce crashes at the intersections.

According to the City of Rockingham, the change comes following a number of requests from residents in the area.

"Following the speed limit review on this road section, the City made a submission to MRWA (Main Roads WA) who have agreed to reduce the speed limit on Mandurah Road from 100 km/h (existing speed limit) to 70 km/h on this 1 km section of road," the City's website read.

Several serious and minor crashes have been reported at the intersections of Anstey Road and Surf Drive over the years.

"This section of Mandurah Road carries over 25,000 vehicles a day at high speeds," the City said.

"With more housing being developed the demand on these intersections has increased significantly, the road environment has changed while the speed limit has remained the same.

"The increase in traffic using this road section and the changed environment has resulted in a number of high severity crashes at both intersections.

"Reducing the speed limit on Mandurah Road will improve the safety for everyone using this section of road by reducing the likelihood and severity of crashes."
