The City will launch its Sustainable Waste Trial Initiative, and local residents are being encouraged to register their interest to take part.
Compost at Home is an initiative focused on creating more sustainable waste solutions. It will give community members the opportunity to create a greener home and reduce the amount of waste they produce.
As a part of the program, a limited number of successful applicants will receive a compost bin free of charge from the City. Applicants must be residents of the City of Rockingham to take part and will need to commit to completing a survey after three, six and 12 months of use in the trial.
Mayor Barry Sammels said the development of sustainable waste solutions was a key strategic objective for the City.
“Planning for future generations is one of the main aspirations in the City’s Strategic Community Plan, and the Compost at Home trial is the latest initiative focused on supporting the responsible and sustainable disposal of waste in our community,” Mayor Sammels said.
“The initiative will run for one year and the surveys that the City conducts throughout the trial will provide us with a clearer understanding of the community’s waste habits over a sustained period of time.”
“There will be limited availability for compost bins in this trial, so the City encourages interested residents to register their interest as soon as possible.”
