A vegan activist accused of stealing a dead piglet and a calf from farms near Mandurah has been remanded in custody.
James Warden, 25, appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with three counts of trespassing, two counts of stealing and two counts of aggravated burglary.
The charges relate to incidents at farming properties in Nambeelup, Hopeland, West Pinjarra, Benger and Mundijong between August 2018 and February 2019.
On one occasion Warden allegedly stole a $1500 calf from a farm south of Perth and took it to an animal rescue in Waroona.
The calf was later returned in good health to its owners.
Several other people ranging in age from 21 to 36 have also been charged over the alleged farm incidents.
Warden's bail was set at $10,000 undertaking and a $5,000 surety, however he was unable to provide the surety which saw him remanded in custody for at least one day until the paperwork is completed.
The animal activist and his co-accused are next due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on May 3.
