WAFL: Thunder struck down by South Fremantle in tough conditions at Lane Group Stadium

Ladder-leaders South Fremantle proved too good for Peel Thunder in tough conditions at Lane Group Stadium at the weekend, winning by 35-points.

The reigning premiers struggled in the 11.8 (74) to 5.9 (39) defeat, managing just one goal the entire second half.

Coach Adam Read said it just wasn't their day.

"Tough day at the office in really trying conditions, we lost the toss and had to kick into the wind early," he said.

"They jumped us in the contest and they were able to get field position and we just couldn't move it out of our back half and then in the second quarter we still couldn't quite get the contest right and we couldn't capitalise on the breeze.

"The second half we were able to get the contest back on our terms but again couldn't make the most of our opportunities and they were able to kick five goals in the third quarter and it was just too big of a gap to try and bridge in the last quarter unfortunately."

To make matters worse, Fremantle star Will Brodie went down with a concussion early in the first quarter.

"Obviously losing him early was not ideal, one of the best ball winners and inside mids in the league, on such a wet contested day but he'll stick to the protocols and hopefully will be right in a couple of weeks to go again," Read said.

The loss keeps Peel at sixth on the WAFL ladder.

They next take on West Perth in round 12 on Saturday, June 28 at HIF Health Insurance Oval.
