Rockingham Mayor Barry has unveiled the new Discovery Park disc golf course.
Waikiki residents now have access to the state's newest disc golf attraction, with the City of Rockingham recently completing the installation of the course at Fantasy Park.
Disc golf is played like traditional golf, but instead of using a ball and clubs players use a flying disc, a frisbee, with the aim of getting the disc into a basket with the least number of throws possible.
The City recently installed baskets, tee pads and signage around Fantasy Park with one beginner and one intermediate course available.
Both courses are nine-holes each and vary in length and difficulty.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged residents to head down to Fantasy Park and join in the fun.
“Disc golf is an exciting sport that can be played by people of all ages and abilities,” he said.
“The terrain, bush and trees at Fantasy Park make it a terrific place to play disc golf and in this case players don’t need to pay a green fee or hire a golf cart – it is completely free to play.
“No matter what your skill level, I encourage residents to head down to Fantasy Park and test their disc golfing skills.”
The new disc golf course also fulfils the priority areas of the City’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2022 including sport, recreation, physical activity, social cohesion and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Fantasy Park is located off Rand Avenue in Waikiki, adjacent to Charthouse Primary School.
Interested players can find the flying discs in sporting stores or online, with discs used competitively typically measuring in at 20-23cm in diameter and 120-180 grams in weight.
