Police have charged a 26-year-old woman after she allegedly drove through a COVID vehicle checkpoint at high speed in Morangup yesterday.
Around 6:15pm, officers observed a silver Ford Falcon being driven at high speed westbound on Toodyay Road.
In an effort to intercept the vehicle, police conducted a U-turn and due to the high speed of the vehicle were unable to make contact.
It will be alleged the driver continued at excessive speed along Toodyay Road before ploughing through the COVID checkpoint on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing staff.
At the time of the incident, there were approximately 11 people at the check point including police, Australian Defence Force officers and members of the public.
Authorities arrested the driver a short time later after the vehicle crashed into a metal roadside safety barrier.
The Goomalling woman has been charged with a string of motor offences including steal motor vehicle and drive recklessly, no authority to drive and failed to comply with a direction.
A 27-year-old Northam man, who was the passenger of the vehicle, has also been charged with one count of steal motor vehicle.
Both the driver and the passenger will appear in the Perth Magistrates' Court today.
