Work has begun on the City of Rockingham’s newest enclosed off-leash dog exercise area, located at St Clair Reserve in Port Kennedy.

The new dog park will feature separate ‘small dog’ and ‘all dog’ exercise spaces, large grassed areas, weather shelters, accessible drink fountains and dog drinking bowls, seating, an accessible path network and mulched areas.

The existing carpark at St Clair Reserve will also be expanded and will include accessible parking.

Mayor Deb Hamblin said the new dog park in Port Kennedy would provide residents in the southern corridor of the City with an opportunity to exercise their pets in a suitable environment.

“The City’s first three enclosed off-leash dog exercise areas have proven to be very popular with the community, and the City is excited to be delivering it’s fourth at St Clair Reserve,” Mayor Hamblin said.

“Extensive planning has gone into delivering these amenities for the community. In 2015 Council endorsed the City’s Enclosed Off-Leash Dog Exercise Needs and Feasibility Study, and in February 2020 St Clair Reserve was endorsed by Council as the location for a future dog park in the southern suburbs.”

The new dog park will be the City’s fourth enclosed dog park, and follows on from purpose-built dog exercise areas developed at Bayview Reserve in Rockingham, Barri Barri Park in Baldivis and Seahaven Reserve in Waikiki.

Work on the new dog park is expected to be completed by the end of April 2022.
