The 21-year-old was driving a Ford Focus hatch east along Grand Ocean Boulevard around 11pm on Sunday when it's understood he failed to negotiate a roundabout at the intersection of Tryall Avenue.
His vehicle then left the road and slammed into a tree, trapping him inside.
The Port Kennedy man had to be cut free from the wreckage before being flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC rescue helicopter.
