Ever noticed the word LONGEVITY sounds like it has TWO G’s… even though there’s only one?

Yeah - English is gaslighting us again.

So here’s the deal. Linguists say there are actually two common ways people pronounce the word. Some say lon-jev-ity… others say long-jev-ity. And that little difference is where the confusion starts.

Your brain hears what feels like a double G - but technically, there isn’t even a hard “g” sound in there at all.

Instead, that single letter is doing double duty.
It’s secretly representing two different sounds: the “ng” sound - like in sing - and the soft “j” sound, like in gentle.

So the letter G is basically working overtime… which honestly explains the longevity.

And here’s the wild part... your brain normally ignores pronunciation differences so conversations keep flowing. Which means you’ve probably heard both versions your whole life and never noticed… until now.

So congratulations, you can no longer hear the word normally ever again.
