Heads up, Mandurah - tonight’s the night the sky puts on one of its coolest shows!
A total lunar eclipse is happening, which means the Earth will slip directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow that turns the Moon a spooky red - often called a “Blood Moon.”
Unlike solar eclipses where you need special glasses, a lunar eclipse is totally safe to watch with the naked eye, so you can see it from anywhere with a clear sky... no funky eyewear required! If the clouds play nice, you should spot it as the Moon rises in the evening, looking like it’s blushing in space.
Best viewing time is between 7:04 and 8:02 pm (7:30 pm peak).
So why does it go red? Sunlight bends through Earth’s atmosphere and filters out the blue, leaving warm red tones, like the Moon just put on an intergalactic crimson lipstick.
Lounging on the lawn, out in the backyard, or just stepping outside after dinner... tonight’s your chance to catch a cosmic moment that’s dramatic, beautiful… and totally free.
So tonight: look up, enjoy, and maybe pretend you’re watching a celestial blockbuster, because the universe is streaming live and you’ve got front-row seats!
