The Oscar nominations for 2026 have just been announced, and there are quite a few surprise snubs, and some historic nominations.
Leading the pack is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which scored a record-breaking 16 nominations, the most ever in Oscar history - topping classics like Titanic, All About Eve and La La Land which equally held the record with 14 nominations.
One Battle After Another was the second most nominated film with 13 nods, while Sentimental Value, Marty Supreme and Frankenstein each jagged nine mentions. Hamnet scored eight nominations.
Favourite Timothee Chalamet is up against Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B Jordan, Ethan Hawke, & Wagner Moura for Best Actor.
The Aussies did well with Rose Byrne getting her first nomination for her leading role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. She's up against Emma Stone, Jessie Buckley, Kate Hudson, and Renate Reinsve.
Jacob Elordi scored a nod for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the Monster in Frankenstein.
And Nick Cave received his first Oscar nomination in original song for Train Dreams.
Surprise snubs included Wicked for Good, which received 10 nominations last year for Part One, but this time around, didn’t even get one!!
One notable omission this year is Guillermo del Toro, who missed out on a Best Director nomination.
Given the industry’s long-standing love for del Toro... and the fact that Frankenstein racked up nine nominations, including Best Picture, it’s a surprising snub not to see his name recognised in that category.
The 98th Academy Awards gets underway on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with Conan O’Brien returning as host.
And something that probably won’t be getting an Oscar nomination but will be a fun watch is Masters of the Universe, and we have the first teaser trailer.
Starring Nicholas Galitzine as He Man, Jarod Leto as Skeletor and Idris Elba as Man at Arms... Masters of the Universe is in cinemas June 4.
