Legendary actress and comedy icon Catherine O’Hara has passed at the age of 71 following a brief illness.
She was best known for her unforgettable roles in Schitt’s Creek, Beetlejuice, and Home Alone.
O’Hara’s career began in improvisational comedy in the 70’s at Toronto’s Second City and on the influential sketch show SCTV, where she worked alongside long-time friend and collaborator Eugene Levy.
She won critical acclaim - including an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award - for her role as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, a character beloved by audiences worldwide.
Off-screen she was admired for her warmth, creativity and comic genius.
She was also a very talented singer and voiced many animated characters, including Sally in Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas.
Catherine was fearless, funny, musical, dramatic - and utterly original.
She is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke.
