James Van Der Beek, the actor who became a household name as Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek, has passed away at just 48 after a 2-year battle with bowel cancer.
For so many of us, he was part of our teenage years - the earnest, hopeful dreamer navigating first love, heartbreak and growing up.
He also appeared in films like Varsity Blues and The Rules of Attraction.
Beyond the screen, James was a devoted husband and father of six, and in recent years had spoken openly about his diagnosis on Good Morning America, encouraging others to prioritise their health and screening.
His wife, Kimberly, announced his peaceful passing on February 11th on his Instagram page, saying he faced his final days “with courage, faith and grace,” and asked for privacy as their family grieves.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support his wife and six children, easing financial pressures after his long cancer battle.
A beloved actor, advocate and human, and for many, the face of a generation.
Vale, James Van Der Beek. Sleep deeply.
