City of Rockingham asks for comments on the future of Cape Peron

City of Rockingham community members are now able to share their thoughts on what the future of Cape Peron should become, after the State Government formally opened community consultation regarding the future land uses of the area.

Led by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage, the State Government is inviting the all interested parties to participate by completing a survey which asks questions on a number of matters including how Cape Peron is currently used, its value and what changes it can sustain.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to share their thoughts with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

“Council advocated that the State Government, as the primary landowner and land manager at Cape Peron, lead the planning process, so the City is encouraged that the Minister for Planning instructed the Department of Planning, Lands and Infrastructure to do so, and that the process is now underway,” Mayor Sammels said.

“The City of Rockingham would like to see the State Government conduct a transparent and collaborative process to arrive at the most sustainable long term uses for this important community asset.

“When the future use is determined, the City also wishes to see the Cape Peron Reserve transferred to Class A to recognise its high community value.”
