Two theatre productions presented by the Koorliny Arts Centre took centre stage at the 2024 Annual Finley Awards.
Koorliny Arts Centre received 10 awards for two in-house theatre productions, including Best Musical Production for Come From Away and Best Play Production for Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors.
The Arts Centre proudly presented the Western Australian amateur premiere of Come From Away, a powerful musical inspired by the true events of 9/11 that left a lasting impact on audiences who gave rave reviews.
City of Kwinana Mayor Peter Feasey said with 12 cast members, this production captured the heartwarming and inspiring story of a small town in Newfoundland that opened its doors to stranded airline passengers in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
Koorliny Arts Centre also brought a unique twist to a classic tale in August with Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, a hilarious reinterpretation of Bram Stoker’s famous vampire story. Just five talented cast members created a fast-paced production that had audiences roaring with laughter.
Mayor Feasey said it was a must-see comedy set in a quirky, spooky version of Transylvania that captivated local theatregoers, blending the supernatural with slapstick humour.
“These awards reflect Koorliny’s standing in the theatre community, producing incredibly powerful performances that unite and move audiences,” he said.
Koorliny Arts Centre coordinator Emma Del Pino said the centre was proud to present such high-quality productions that truly bring the community together and attract audiences from across the regions.
“It is such an honour to receive these awards from the Independent Theatre Association of WA and I praise the hard work, dedication and volunteer time of the cast and crew to deliver award-winning community theatre performances with such powerful storytelling and a desire to engage,” Mrs Del Pino said.
The Finley Awards were presented on 11 January 2025.
