Mandurah man charged over walking stick attack

A 48-year-old man has been charged after allegedly attacking another man with a walking stick in Mandurah.

Police were called to a park on Sholl Street around 1.05pm on Tuesday, April 7 following a report that a member of the public had been assaulted with a walking stick.

"It will be alleged the 48-year-old man approached a 58-year-old male and struck him in the face with the walking stick," a WA Police spokesperson said.

"Police quickly attended the area and located the 48-year-old man, who was apprehended at the scene."

The victim suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to Peel Health Campus for medical treatment.

The accused was also allegedly in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

The Mandurah man has been charged with grievous bodily harm, possession of a prohibited drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on April 8.
