Long-serving Labor MP Paul Papalia is set to announce his resignation from politics today.

The West Australian reports, Papalia will confirm his exit, forcing Premier Roger Cook to reshuffle his front bench.

Mr Papalia — the current Minister for Corrective Services, Emergency Services, Defence Industries, Veterans and Racing and Gaming — is the longest-serving MP in the State’s Legislative Assembly.

He was elected to the seat of Peel in the 2007 by-election before winning the new seat of Warnbro in 2008.

The former Navy diver remained Warnbro MP until the seat was abolished and renamed Secret Harbour in 2025.

According to The West Australian, a senior government source has confirmed Labor MPs have been called to a caucus meeting at midday on Friday to select who will be promoted to Cabinet.
