WA Police are urging people selling motorbikes online to remain vigilant after an increase of thefts from homes across Perth this year including in South Yunderup.
Offenders are using online marketplaces and social media platforms to target sellers, particularly those advertising motorcycles and high‑value items.
In some cases, they hide behind convincing fake profiles to obtain the address of the seller and later attend the property to steal motorcycles from the garage, shed or yard.
Between January 1 and June 21, 2026, police recovered 55 stolen motorcycles and arrested 36 people for their alleged involvement in motorcycle thefts.
Detectives are still investigating a burglary on Murray Waters Boulevard in South Yunderup where three offenders used a wheelie bin to look inside a garage on Monday, March 2, 2026.
The trio then gained access to the garage via another door and stole a white and blue Yamaha off-road motorcycle.
"WA Police remind the community that while online selling is convenient, small changes to behaviour can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim, below are some safety measures the community can adopt," a WA Police spokesperson said.
• Be mindful when taking photos for listings, avoiding identifiable landmarks or features that
may reveal your location.
• Avoid cleaning or displaying high‑value items, such as motorcycles, in visible areas where they
may attract attention.
• Secure valuable items with quality locks and, where possible, attach them to an immovable
object.
• Ensure garages and storage areas are properly secured.
• Consider using tracking devices on high‑value items.
• Remain vigilant when transporting items and be aware of vehicles or persons that may be
following you.
• Arrange to meet buyers in a public place, rather than at your residence.
• Do not hand over goods until payment has been confirmed in full.
• Trust your instincts and leave immediately if a situation does not feel right.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour, has information relating to motorcycle thefts or burglaries, or is aware of premises where off road motorcycles regularly enter and leave under suspicious circumstances – potentially involved in the storage, movement, or sale of stolen motorcycles – is encouraged to report the information to Crime Stoppers.
