Mandurah Detectives have charged a man from Spearwood as a result of their investigation into a scrub fire in Falcon on Tuesday, 3 January 2023.
It is alleged about 7.30pm, the man set fire to scrub land adjacent to a Reserve on Merlin Street. It is further alleged on attendance by Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) the man was repeatedly obstructive to DFES fire fighters and kept trying to add more items to the fire to keep it burning.
Mandurah Detectives, with the assistance of Strike Force Vulcan investigators, charged the man with:
One count of Wilfully Light or Cause to be Lit, a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage. (This offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment); and
One count of Obstructing Public Officers.
The man appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on 4 January 2023. Bailed was refused and he was remanded in custody to next appear in court on 18 January 2023.
