7.2 magnitude earthquake shakes Darwin

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake has been felt in Darwin, with some shops in the CBD evacuated.

The quake hit in the Banda Sea off Indonesia around 11.53am.

Residents in Darwin have reported feeling tremors.

At this stage there is no reports of major damage or injuries.

There is no tsunami threat to Australia.
